My Happy Place (and other thoughts)

My Studio

I've never written a blog before, in fact, I've been putting this off for ages because every time I sit down to write it I either gaze blankly at my screen or write something and think 'Alex, that's rubbish - DELETE'.

I've been spending more time than ever in my studio. It is one of my happy places (the other one is the Lake District). This room somehow has the power to make me feel like I'm being productive just by sitting in it. I've been illustrating a lot recently and I'm really enjoying working in a looser style, which I've avoided doing in the past because I've been so focused on my work being absolutely perfect. I have spent hours on illustrations and ended up not liking them in the end because I've overworked them. It's the time pressure that often brings out the best results, and I've found this when doing live illustration work - the lines you put down are what you've got!

I'm really looking forward to what this new way of working brings!
